Capital Aikikai Testing - October 25, 2008
Kyu testing - 5th through 2nd kyu plus some shots of post-test instruction.
I shot this test a bit differently. My knee was bothering me so I didn't shoot from the mat, but standing, from the little spectator area. Because I was further back, I used a 70-200mm lens. There were less people testing this time, so only one pair tested at a time. Unfortunately, most testers hung around one of the posts that support the ceiling which effectively hid them from the camera.
Instead of using off camera flashes, I mounted an old camera to the same post the testers were hiding behind. It didn't get used much except for Dave's 2nd kyu test. Dave was the only one who didn't hide behind the post. In fact, Dave was asked to move a bit more towards the center of the dojo to avoid throwing Russ into the examiners' table. :)
Any way, you can spot the photos from the remote camera by looking for that examiners' table.
